Print pageOver 12,000 institutions accept Cambridge English certificates and there are over 2,700 examination centres across 130 countries.
The Cambridge Proficiency Examination was introduced in 1913 and has been accepted by universities, employers and government departments since then. This exam is used to evidence students ability to use English at a level approaching that of a native speaker.
The CPE, like other Cambridge exams, uses real-life situations. It is proof of language skills needed to communicate at the highest levels of academic and professional life.
In order to to sit for this exam you should be able to:
- understand the main ideas of complex pieces of writing, documents, correspondence and reports
- advise on or discuss complex or sensitive issues
- understand colloquial expressions and deal confidently with hostile questions
- produce written texts on any subject and record meetings with accuracy and good use of expressions
